Description: An electric engine-cooling fan built for the demands of your big truck, and then some. This fan -the most powerful on the market- is the answer to the overheating problems caused by slow in-city driving or heavy towing, and solves the cooling problems that occur with body lifts. This unit responds based on cooling need (not just engine speed) to maintain optimum engine temperature. Up to 17 additional horsepower -dyno proven- is transferred to the wheels by removing the belt driven fan and fan clutch. Decreased load on the engine results in improved fuel economy - up to 2-3 mpg. Pulls a whopping 5,500 cfm.

Pros: Hopefully better mileage TBD. Better throttle response.
Cons: Haven't found any yet

Installed in 2001 4.6V8. Rating will go up if my mileage increases. I like the controller that runs only 60% with AC on or initial turn on when temp reaches setting. Fans kick up to 100% when 10 degree increase is indicated. The multi-use fit-all installation brackets didn't allow for some small collant lines running out of my radiator on the drivers side, so some mods were in order. You need three arms to get to the bracket bolts when you put the fan in. Be patient. All in all great looking and fitting unit. Pic's to be posted soon.

Pros: Looks like it came from the ford factory.
Cons: Only time will tell.

I just installed a flex-a-lite 270 on 3/11/07. Excellent product. Perfect fit. Took about 9 hours total to install, including the time it took to find all the electrical connection on my truck. This included finding AC connections, key on power and routing of wires though truck. Spent $7 dollars on miscellaneous items, like wire loom and rocker switch. I chose this fan over the Troyer Fan because of the Flex-a-Lite Fan allows the fan unit to be mounted on the sides of the radiator instead of thru the fins. Mounting thru the fins tends to lead to leaks in your radiator from vibration. Fits perfect on my 2006 4.6 STX Flareside.

Pros: Mounts easily
Cons: If you dont understant wiring your in for a mindbender

My Edge Evolution Instant and Average MPG gauge tells me the kit has given me a 3MPG increase.Noticeable difference on throttle.Very happy with the outcome. On the other hand, five hundred and sixty bucks tells me I shoulda got the correct amount
of nuts, taps, connectors and maybe some loktite and wire loom..Spending that kinda dough, I wont forget that I had to borrow my wifes car to go get stuff that shoulda came with the kit.

Pros: Nice looking kit
Cons: Costly with no increase in MPG

I installed this on my 2002 F-150 with the 5.4 and an automatic tranny; my truck had over 63k miles on it when I installed the other month. No other performance mods to my truck except for an existing K&N drop in filter. I bought this kit used on craigslist, so I saved some money and some of the wiring was already done making my install quicker. It is a nice looking kit in that it looks factory as some others have mentioned. The install was OK, just the bolts on the frame that have been mentioned before being hard to get to, actually, this took the most time for me as I had to stop, take a break from it, and go back before finally getting those bolts and nuts started. It was easy to set up and I used a temperature probe to set the turn on by measuring the temp. at the inlet neck of my radiator.

The bad part is that my mpg actually decreased right after installation. I drive 86 miles round trip to work each day with about 80 of those miles being on the highway with cruise set usually to 70-73 mph. I keep up with my mpg in an excel spreadsheet and I was getting about 16.2 - 16.9 mpg (with one 17.3 in there back during the summer) before the install. After the install, it went down to 15.5 then 16.3, 16.7, 16.2, then a run of 15.9's before finally coming back up 16.4 as of the last fill up (11-3-09). I was hoping to see at least a 1-2 mpg gain so as to pay for itself quickly and then start paying a positive ROI. The driving habits have not changed at all since the install, the battery was disconnected during the install for over 24 hours (started install on Friday evening, finished on Saturday evening), and I actually cleaned my K&N drop in filter the other week just to make sure that was not a bottleneck with no notice of improvement. Not sure why I did not see any improvement? This is the only reason I do not recommend the kit. If you could be guaranteed an increase in mpg I would say go for it. I didn't really notice any seat of the pants feel of increase in hp or torque or throttle response. Oh well...
