Street Smart Designs new Cold Air Intake for the 5.4 and 4.6L V8 F150. The Streetsmart cold air intake kit is a true bolt-in for the 1997-2003 Ford F150. There is no need to relocate your mass airflow sensor or lengthen any wiring. PCV and IAT connections on your Ford F150 plug right in at the stock locations. The Streetsmart cold air intake kit is extremely versatile and will work with your Ford F150 stock mass airflow sensor as well as any performance aftermarket mass airflow sensor. Furthermore, the Streetsmart Design cold air intake kits do not introduce turbulence that can throw off your mass airflow sensor. This kit comes complete with all the components necessary to install it quickly and easily into stock Ford F150 mounting holes.

Hey everyone I recently had the pleasure of trying out Street Smart Designs new F150 cold air intake for the 4.6 and 5.4L engines. They have just recently joined the world of truck modding and so far it seems as if they hit the nail right on the head. First off the intake is extremely stylish to almost anyone and really catches people’s attention when I open the hood. I previously had on a cheap intake from eBay and was a firm believer that all intakes were the same. After trying out the new SSD Intake I no longer believe that claim. Right off the back I could tell that the intake gave my truck a slight increase in throttle response. I don’t have any numbers to back it up but I can definitely feel a slight power increase as well. Not to mention the nice growl it gave my truck also.
The tube itself is hand polished and made of T3403 Stainless steel so it should last a long time. I can’t believe how much difference in quality this kit is over my previous one. Also, this kit comes with a genuine K&N reusable filter and on the plus side if you already have a K&N filter like many of you do you can opt for the air intake kit that doesn’t come with a filter so you can drop in your own and save some cash.
Also, something new to the average intakes for our trucks is their Carbon Fiber Cold Air Box which not only gives the intake an awesome look it keeps out all the hot air in your engine compartment and draws it’s air from the driver side fender. Under stop and go driving this is a must.
Installing the kit was a breeze it came almost all complete and I really only needed to drop in the filter and tighten the clamps, connect the MAF sensor and presto! Really simple! The kit is made to where you do not need to lengthen anything like in my previous kit. Both the PCV hose and IAC valve hose connect right to the new kit with no modifications at all! Also if you do get in a pinch they provide you with the number to their tech support or you can just use the tech link on their website as well. They make it almost impossible for the average person to have difficulty installing their kit.
All in all I was extremely impressed with the overall quality of the kit and performance it gave my truck. I feel that this kit is right up there with the other aftermarket kits that are out there and are one step ahead with their cold air box. These guys should have no trouble holding their own against the competitors out there as the price is comparable and in some cases cheaper than the other guys and the product is just as good if not better. I feel confident when I say that I think some of you guys who are in the market for an Air Intake should strongly consider looking at the SSD (http://www.ssd4u.com/streetsmart_001.htm) intake kit. The kit I got the chance to try out is part number FFS2001-F and for those of you with a filter already go with their FFS2001 model you won’t be disappointed that you did. If anyone has any questions regarding the kit whatsoever please do not hesitate to contact me at Flex956@MSN.com or ask me a question in the forums or feel free to contact Street Smart Design at sales@ssd4u.com. Also right now incase you have missed it SSD is offering members of FordF150.net an exclusive offer to check out the details click here http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9503

The Cold Air Intake kit from SSD is awesome. I just put it on my truck yesterday. The install was pretty straightforward. It took me about 1.5 hours start to finish, but I could have been a bit quicker if I wanted.
The pros are:
- this is a true bolt-on. I didn't have to cut or fabricate anything to get this on
- The installation time was fairly quick and easy. I only need a minimum of tools
- The growl.... this thing makes your engine make a noticable growl from under the hood, which is something I like. It lets you know that engine is sucking in lots of air. The air opening on the stock air box has such a restriction that it's ridiculous. There's like a 2" hole to give your engine all the air it needs. What a joke. The SSD has a much larger intake hole which means more airflow.
- High quality pieces - the kit contains nothing but high quality parts that fit and look great. I had an intake tube on my old truck and I had to cut and modify it to make it fit. This SSD kit just popped into place.
The cons:
- Well the only thing that I could say is a con is the wire routing for the MAF sensor. Because you're not modifying the stock wiring, a little bit of wiring is exposed. But it's easy enough to cover the exposed wires up with a bit of loom or electrical tape. Perhaps on a future design of this box, they can rotate the MAF and hide the wiring on the back or bottom rather than on top. I don't know if that's possible???
Anyway to sum up, this is a high quality kit that is definitely worth the money. The growl from under the hood on heavy acceleration is just a bonus! ;-)

The ease of installation, the looks of the kit, and the positvie effects on acceleration

Only problem I saw is the MAF wiring on the top front, could be relocated to the rear for a much better look

I am totally satisfied with the kit. I was hesitant on the purchase because of a new sponsor, but it was well worth it. I removed a K&N FIPK system and am glad I did. With this kit, I also added a bigger throttle body (75MM) and the chromed 87MM MAF sensor, I can't believe the difference in the throttle response. I should have picked up some well accepted horse power on this mod. I will continue to recommend the SSD intake and the rest of their products.
