Description: Troyer Performance Heavy-Duty Dual 16" Electric Fan Kit for the following vehicles:

1997-2003 Ford F-150 with 4.2 V6, 4.6 or 5.4 V8 (not for supercharged 5.4).

1997-2003 Ford Expedition with 4.6 or 5.4 engine.

1997-2003 Ford F-250 Light Duty with 4.6 or 5.4 engine.

NOTE: This kit can also be used on the 1999-2003 Ford SVT Lightning & 2002-2003 Harley models with their supercharged 5.4 engines, however, that will require trimming & retaining part of the factory fan shroud where the intercooler fluid reservoir is mounted, or simply mounting the intercooler fluid reservoir elsewhere. Everything else is the same as other F-150's.

This kit includes a pair of the heaviest-duty 16" Electric Fans available for rugged long-term durability. Each fan has it's own shroud and mounts directly to your vehicle's radiator assembly, eliminating the restrictive factory fan shroud & freeing up a lot of room under the hood. This also allows underhood airflow to be increased over the cylinder heads & the rest of the engine.

Each fan has it's own independent & fully adjustable Fan Controller, so you can use *any* temperature thermostat you want, and you do not need to change the factory 192 degree thermostat at all, unless you want to. These dual independent controllers also give you complete redundant capabilities should one of the fans or controllers ever fail.

This kit is set up in the same basic manner as in high-end automobiles such as Mercedes, Corvette, etc. The configuration is a low-temperature fan and a high-temperature fan in a "staggered" turn-on arrangement to provide proper cooling under any conditions and to keep the start-up amperage draw on your vehicle's electrical system in line. This kit can be used even if you do not have the optional 130 amp alternator, and even if you have underdrive pulleys! In fact, most of our customers using this fan kit are also using our Underdrive Pulleys as well, to pick up every bit of power possible from reducing "parasitic" losses.

Each of the Fan Controllers has a separate "dry" temperature probe that installs easily in seconds between the fins of your radiator.

One of the Electric Fans is automatically activated anytime you turn on the vehicle's Air Conditioning, for increased cabin cooling efficiency.

Complete installation instructions with pictures are included of course, and installation time is approximately 3 to 4 hours. Installation involves both mechanical work (removing the factory fan & shroud and installing the new electric fans & controllers), as well as some easy wiring to connect the fans and the controllers to their power sources as we thoroughly describe in our installation manual. We provide all splice connectors needed, so you do not need to solder any of those connections unless you prefer to.

The only "special" tool you will need is either a scan tool to read the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor's reading, or you can use a simple infrared "point & shoot" automotive thermometer so you can set the fan turn-on temperatures. The fan turn-on temperatures can be set anywhere from as low as 150 degrees to as high as 240 degrees, allowing you to run *ANY* temperature thermostat you want! (NOTE: We recommend using a thermostat of not lower than 180 degrees, and not higher than 192 degrees, which is the factory stock thermostat's rating.) The fans will turn off automatically once the thermostat is satisfied, so you do not need to worry about setting the fan turn-off temperatures!

Power gains from this kit run anywhere from a low of 15 HP to as much as 20 HP at the rear wheels, and throttle response is improved *everywhere*, at any speed, at any rpm, thanks to completely eliminating the parasitic loss from the 11 lb. weight of the factory mechanical fan.

And since the engine is no longer having to turn that 11 lb. mass of the factory mechanical fan, you will also see some very nice mpg improvements as well. MPG gains typically range anywhere from a low of about 1.0 mpg to as much as 2.5 more mpg in these vehicles!

This system provides a total of a whopping 4600 CFM's, enough to support the cooling needs of a 700 HP supercharged engine!

This system has been thoroughly tested in all kinds of extreme climates and conditions, including testing in temperatures ranging from 30 degrees below zero (not including the wind chill!) all the way up to a blistering 117 degrees, and works like a champ in any weather.

In one test, we took a stock vehicle with automatic transmission and this Troyer Performance Electric Fan kit installed, made it idle in gear with the emergency brake set and the A/C on full blast for 1 hour in 117 degree outside ambient temperatures, and even after sitting still idling for an hour under those punishing conditions, the engine coolant temperature gauge never budged, staying right in the middle! The actual coolant temperature never rose above 232 degrees, and never came close to overheating. Under those same conditions with the factory mechanical fan, the vehicle was in overheat mode with idle speed increased to 1000 rpm and coolant temps in the 260-270 degree range!

In another test, using a 180 degree t-stat and setting the fan turn-on temps accordingly, in 115 degrees outside ambient doing the same test idling in gear for an hour with the A/C on full blast, the coolant temps never rose above 221 degrees!

IMPORTANT NOTES:

While all parts needed to install this kit are included, and all the wiring is properly insulated, you may want to pick up some split convoluted tubing or sheathing & "zip" ties from your local auto parts store to cover the insulated wiring harness from the fans & the controllers for a factory original-looking installation. This is of course optional, and that is what has been done in the pictures you see here. This is one view of the kit as installed by F-150 Online member "S'crewloose" on his Ford F-150 SuperCrew. The only things not included in our kit that you see in these pictures is simply the sheathing he used to cover the insulated wiring and some zip-ties used to make this installation look exactly the way he wanted. We leave this up to each individual vehicle owner to decide if they want to do this, and if so, what colors to use, etc. If you decide to do this, we recommend doing that *after* all the installation work is completed and the fan turn-on temperatures are set.

Gasoline engines make their absolute highest power output and get the best fuel mileage when the engine coolant temperature is in the 200 to 210 degree range. We recommend sticking with the stock factory 192 degree thermostat & using fan turn-on temperatures as we describe in our installation manual, to keep the engine coolant in the 200-210 degree range. If you are doing any kind racing, or if you need to tow heavy loads frequently, you may want to drop down to a 180 degree thermostat & set the turn-on temps accordingly as described in our installation instructions. Whatever you do, DO NOT use any thermostat rated lower than 180 degrees in any computer-controlled vehicle, or you will not make the best power and may experience driveability symptoms & loss of heater function in cold weather, etc.

Pros: Work awesome, gives you more MPG, decreases noise under the hood.
Cons: It's a little tricky when setting the turn-on temps

I am VERY happy with my e-fans. This is a very popular mod and it's obvious why. I wish I had done it sooner. The truck is quieter (I can hear my exhaust even more now) and I noticed an immediate improvement in power. Doing this mod definitely frees up some ponies! Put this on your to-do list!
