Description

Here are the details on my car:

  • 1992 Mercury Sable GS 4-door sedan
  • 3.0L Vulcan 6 cylinder engine
  • 4 speed automatic transmission
  • Air conditioning, tilt steering, cruise control
  • Power windows, mirrors, door locks, drivers seat
  • Grey with grey interior

As of October 2002, it has 238,000km on it, which is approximately 148,000 miles.

I bought this car in April of 2000 from it's original owner. It had 212,000km on it (~129,000 miles). The car was apparently a rental car for a while before the fellow bought it (so, technically it had two previous owners). I bought it from an older gentleman who had replaced it with a new grey Oldsmobile (I think that's what it was. It was a GM product of some sort).

It has the reliable 3.0L Vulcan V6 engine, with the notorious bad tranny. The transmission has some slippage in it. The car is still very reliable and works, so I'm not going to bother getting it rebuilt just yet. After all, the car isn't even paid for yet.

Problems I've had to date (& associated repair costs):

  1. The transmission slips a bit when shifting (not repaired yet)
  2. A heater hose burst ($62.27)
  3. The water pump failed ($242.52)
  4. The battery died ($100)
  5. Had to replace the brakes ($66.28)
  6. Replaced cruise control servo ($53.50)

Other things I've done to the car:

  1. Added AutoLamps kit
  2. Bought 2 new tires
  3. Replaced one dash air vent
  4. Replaced all the hoses & belts
  5. Replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filters, etc.

Things left to do:

  • Replace the DRL relay (the high beam indicator is always on)
  • Fix the rattle in the rear suspension
  • Fix the power steering leak (not a big problem yet)
  • Fix the small amount of rust on the bottom of the drivers door

I hope to add more information soon - info like service history, mileage info, etc.
