And most parts supply houses have the fan removal kits for loan.

Cheers

Are there any "How to" guides for this? Is the water pump located behind the fan pulley?
I had a terrible sqeaking noise for a few and couldn't determine what it was until I got home, shut off the truck and the truck threw up it's watery contents all over my driveway.

thanks bozz - I think I will. Won't be able to wait though - has to be done soon. Do you know if this job can be done without the "water-pump" wrench?

you need the special two piece wrench to remove the fan assembly. here's a link

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDeta ... yCode=2093

I'm sure you could do the job without this wrench, but I would avoid it at all costs! I replaced the water pump on my wife's (then girlfriend) Blazer and removed the fan without the special wrench... ROYAL PITA! anyhow, removing the fan is the trickiest part. It's very straight forward otherwise. just remember which bolt goes where; that's important.

I was afraid you were going to say that. I had called a few auto part places earlier tonight, they're like $25.00 for a one time tool. I didn't ask if they "rent" them or loan them out only if they hd them in stock. Oh well, another silly tool to throw in the toolbox!

Auto Zone has a loaner program and my local store had the fan wrench to borrow. It saved me money and time. I wouldn't try it without the wrench kit.

it never hurts to ask. I know my local Napa has tools they loan out.
