So last night I was rolling down my window, and all of a sudden there was a loud grinding noise, and the window fell. Now it won't roll up. So it probably fell off of the tracks.
Has anyone else had this problem before?
I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow and wondering how much it will cost me.
Just take the door panel off and put the window back on the track. It's pretty easy and it'll save you the $100-$200 the dealership will charge. You can usually look and see pretty easily why the window came off the track.
you should do it yourself i have had that problem if you wanna spend 150 order a window regulator and motor and do it yourself
take off the door pannel
then water sheild
weather stripping
unbolt and take out the window
then ulbolt and unplug the regulator
reverse

my driver side window wouldn't roll down and then fell into the door (2 weeks after my bumper to bumper ran out). Took it to the dealer and was told that the window motor burned out. Here we are 3 months later and the same has now happened to my passenger window! Anyone else have this problem? How long until my other two windows are out of commission, as well?
About 6 months ago and 300 miles after turned 36,000; I walked out to find my back window down.
Turns out it cost $400 to repair and supposedly glass was off track due to some "small part" that broke and had to be repaired.
This morning, I rolled down my front window and heard the same grinding as when I tried to roll up the other one.
Obviously, from my history and all the other postings on the internet on this problem; if you have a Ford 150 it's a matter of time till you have a window problem.
I have a 2004 4dr F150 Ford truck. All 4 electronic windows have failed within 8,000 miles of each other. All windows failed the same way, cable jumps out of the bottom pulley. Basically, rolling up the window, hearing a crunch sound, and down goes the window. Complained to Ford, that they should be responsibe for the all 4 window failurs, and was instructed to have windows inspected. Ford has no intention of backing up their faulty design and was left to the mercy of the dealership. Over $700 later I still only have 3 windows that work. This is a problem Ford is aware of, but will not admit their mistake. I for one will trading this F150 for a Toyota!

If you want an expensive window problem that gets overlooked by the manufacturer, look no further than GM. I had an 00 Camaro, sister hada 98 blazer, mother had a 99 Gran Prix GT. All of them had multiple window motor failures. Not just a part on the window track, the actual motors and cables would break. Slowest darn windows when they were going up or down when they were working.
Yesterday my passenger side rear window on my FX4 fell into the door and would not roll up or down. I took it to a Ford dealership for repair. $400.00 for a new regulater. Now this wouldn't be too bad but this is the third time I have had the same problem on three different windows.
The service guy knew what the problem was before I could explain. Seems many people have had the same problem with their window regulater breaking.
Ford, in good faith, should have a recall for this problem.
I'm having an issue with the button on my drivers side, sometimes I'll have to press it again for the window to come up... I'm thinking it's the lithium grease, needs redone...

I have had 3 windows on my ford f-150 sport fall and its a used 2005. I definitely think ford need to fix this problem or they just making money from this default. I have notice also ,I have to press the window button twice to go down. FORD RECALL

It's not a "default" - it's a deFECT. But if it survives the warranty, and it's not a safety or emissions issue, Ford has no more responsibility for it. It's your truck. Buy Dorman regulators if you don't want the Ford ones, but I doubt they're any better. Either way, a new regulator comes with its own new warranty, so that's what I'd base my decision on.
As to the button - I doubt lithium grease will have any effect; it's probably just worn out. Test it, and if necessary, replace it.

Steve- does Dorman make regulators for the new body ('04-up)?

I had a '96 Pontiac Transsport that did the same thing on the drivers side, while flying down the highway in the middle of nowhere, during a freaking downpour! I had the foresight to purchase an extended warranty with the car so it only cost me the $100 deductible.
DRIVERS WINDOW MADE A BANG SOUND THEN THE WINDOW FELL DOWN. AFTER REMOVING THE DOOR PANEL AND FOUND A CHEEZY PLASTIC CLIP BROKEN THAT IS HOOKED UP TO A CABLE. JESUS HOW CHEAP CAN EVERYTHING BE. WILL SEE IF MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL COVER IT.
