Ford F150 - Replacing Power Window Regulator....How difficult?

Okay, I ordered my front left power window regulator online and should have it by Tuesday. The regulator comes without the motor so my question is...How complicated is it to swap it out? The Dealership wanted over $450 to do it, but I ordered one online for $40.

Is that a new or rebuilt ? It's a pain in the ***.

It would depend a LOT on what kind of truck you're talking about.

i just did mine last weekend its a b**** but it is simple it took me 2 1/2 hours total. the biggest pain is taking the glass out of the window. i hope that you dont have tints i scratched mine and it seems inevitable. i have an 04, the process consists of taking off the door pannel then the rain sheild and weather stripping, after that you need to raise the window and loosen the screws in the clamps that hold the window. lower the window lift it out and turn it forwards about 90 deg ( I would mask off the paint on the door around the window the glass could scratch it). After you get the glass out there are 4 bolts that hold the regulator in place loosen them and slude them off then you can pull them out through the door. and the install is the reverse just make sure you take your time especially when you are aligning the window and putting back the weather stripping. if you have an 03 or earlier it might be harder but probably not much but it is a pain The motor is simple, the only ones i found came with the motor so i dont know how it comes but if it comes wrapped up on the pully then it should be simple as long as you dont drop the cable off and if you do remember that the cable gets tight and you might have to wrestle it to get it under control. but the motor and pully are held on by three torx screws, and the motor mounts rignt into it. id give yourself 3-5 hours to get it all done. its a good 6 pack job good luck

I presume this is the same 2004 Lariat.

Yes, it's an 04 Lariat. I got the part delivered today and to my surprise there are no cables like what I saw in my door. I did make sure to order a Front Drivers side POWER window regulator. Is this correct part? After market regulator = no cables? Here is a link to the part I purchased

I hate to tell you this, but I think you have regulator for the heritage F150 (I realize that the distributor's website says it is for an '04 Lariat, but the new body style does not employ scissor-type regulators; their catalogue appears to be wrong). You need the new body style:

Return your regulator for a refund, complain about the inaccuracy of the website, and don't do anymore business with those folks. They obviously aren't on top of their game.

For what it's worth, replacing the window regulator is a pain in the a$$. When my regulator failed out of warranty, a local body shop ordered a new Ford OEM part (not a third-party manufacturer part) *and* installed it for under $200 within two days. My recommendation is to cut your losses and have it done at a body shop.

I thought it was pretty easy myself. No need to remove your window either. That one fact will make this much much easier and less painful to do. But then again I used to own an Isuzu impulse turbo. Now that WAS a pain to work on. If you could get parts for it!

To change it just remove your door panel, then remove the inner vapor barrier making sure not to damage it. Get some duct tape out and have it ready. Once you have access to the inner workings of your door lower the window enough to gain access to the 2 bolts that hold it to the regulator. Once these are loose and free from the window slide the window up and use that duct tape to hold it in the up position. Now remove the 4 bolts holding the regulator to the door and the 1-2 bolts (I forgot how many) that hold the motor to the door. Now compress the whole assembly and pull it out of the large door opening.

Install it by reversing the procedure with one caveat. When bolting the regulator to the door do this loosely. Then instal your window to the regulator. Move the window fully up using the door switches THEN tighten door your 4 regulator bolts. If you have any other question feel free to e-mail me or post here.

Anyone have any idea why the power sliding rear window just stopped working? fuse is good, part of the whole power window circuit. Are the switches in the roof faulty? anybody???
