Is it normal for the gauges to sweep from one side to the other when i start my truck.Seems the computer is testing the cluster?After they go from max and back they seem to funtion fine.

No. My friend had similar experience, he pressumably had some water either on guages, ECC, or wiring harness. Things to do:

1) Disconnect harness from ECC, under hood, blow it with air, clean connectors with alcohol, reconnect.

2) Try another guage cluster, cheap on eBay.

3) Replace ECC.

Ford trucks do a test to make sure everything is working properly, that's why you see your ABS light and Airbag light and stuff come on when you first start your truck.

I dunno what 4600 is talking about, but if you say it goes to the correct readings right away I would think that's normal.

Speedo, volt meter, oil pressure, water temperature guages sweeping from one side to the other is not normal. Normally, battery light comes on, air bag comes on, and that's about it I think.

unfortunately 4600cc is right on this one cliff. if the gauges sweep there is a problem.
