I was just wondering what you guys pull with your f-150's and what is the maximum weight you pull. Also, What is the maximum you could pull with a F-150 FX4 5.4 triton with tow package? It has a 6.5foot box and is a flare side. I'd like to be able to pull a 27foot trailer but I don't know... is 7200lbs to much for this truck?

I only pull a roughly 2000 lbs boat with my truck, hardly know its even back there. The Ford website has a guide listing the towing capacities, I can pull somewhere around 9500 lbs with the towing package, 3.73 LS, and the 5.4 L that is in the truck.

I'm usually pulling my Father-in-Law's old Chevy Van on a trailer after it dies on the side of the road . I have also pulled a 12,000lb Bobcat Skiploader on its trailer. I could tell it was back there but had no problem pulling it. My truck has the 5.4L with 3:73 gears and the towing package.
I pull 27 foot RV no problem with 33 inches tires and 4.10 gear ratio.... I'm juggling if I should swap 4.10 for 4.56 gear ratio or trade in for Powerstroke since I wanted to be able to pull RV and boat at same time. Hmmmm however that's not gonna happen anytime soon but looking at it to have it done by summer next year when I hit road for long vacation.
I was looking at new powerstroke F250 just couple days ago... Drove it, really sweet. I asked saleman about towing that much. He just scoffed and said, it would be nothing for Powerstroke. I looked at towing rating for my FX4, it is rated to pull 9,500 lbs. My rv is ultra light weight, rated at 4,500 lbs and boat's around 4,000. So, that's just right below 9,500 lbs towing limits. I have seen several F150, Dodge Ram 1500, and even Chevy 1500 pulling 5th wheel with boat behind it. I asked two of them about it, they said it was no problem for them. So that left me to think about my budget on spending small extra on swapping 4.10 for 4.56 gear ratio OR 15K extra on powerstroke after trading my FX4 in. I do love my FX4 and I specific picked it for be able to go anywhere off road where powerstroke is too heavy and long to go. I know there's alot of pro and con of having something out for from FX4 and powerstroke. Dont get me wrong, I do love them both. If I keep FX4, then I would be cringing when I pull two trailer at once and be paying extra close attention to powertrain. If I get powerstroke, towing that much would be no worries for me but have to give up my off roading pleasure and pay extra close attention about going throught mudhole or going out to mountain for camping and vacation.

duellist: I have a 01 Screw with the factory tow package and the 7700 option. I currently pull a Zepelin 303 RV that is 33.5 feet long. The trailer weighs around 5200 lbs empty. You know the trailer is there on some of the hills but overall it is ok. I have crossed the Canadian Rockies a couple of times (Edmonton to Vancouver)with no issues. I have reese equalizer with stabilizer bars. You might want to add a tranny temp gauge and make sure you have tires that can handle pullling a trailer ie: not passenger rated.

Dude thats awesome! I hope to have that in a year or so too. So if you can pull that with your truck then I should be able to pull a 26 or 28 ft trailer with mine.

I know the trailer police will probably say my truck is too short for the length of the trailer. There is a formula out there to figure how long a trailer should be compared to length of truck. If you take it easy and keep an eye on your tranny temps you should be fine. The only time my tranny got warmish was in stop and go traffic for 45 minutes in 95F (35c) weather. Even then the temps were around 180ish.
BTW my truck has the 3.55 diff.
Have fun rving
