OK everyone. I want to make sure all Ford truck owners are aware of the latest recall from Ford. I have made an announcement on the home page, and this will be the dedicated discussion thread to discuss this safety recall.

I have put together the following information:
Recall Information and Ford Press Release
Find out if you're affected by this recall
Yahoo article on the recall

You can also check these forum threads for more discussion:
http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17597
and
http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17627

Be sure to spread the word about this recall. I will add more info here as it comes available.

Yes, no recalls for my 2004 either. Just think, I did have a 2000 F150 that I traded in for the '04, and it probably had the recall for the cruise control switch. Thanks Kelly for the links you provided.

Thanks Kelly I came to FordF150.com to add a post and saw that you were already on top of things with your links on the home page.

Awesome, I contacted Ford today & my insurance company and it looks like I'm going to get my money back from my fire.

If anyone is interested in reading some members experiences (including mine) see my thread in the V6 engine “freak fire under hood" for what happened to me last August and the many replies including pic’s.

P.S. I've been hesitant to make any further mod's in fear of another fire but if I get a full reimbursement from Ford it will be just enough to go to Troyer's and by those ceramic headers I've been eyeballing. And have some left over to take my favorite little Hottie for a night out on the town.

My 1998 F150 has the defective part, disconnected mine today, then went and talked to a friend at the local dealership, he took a look at mine and said it was the part, he didn't realize they were useing them that far back.

we'll see what happens.

I went to FORD.COM and punched in my VIN. I JUST bought this 2001 F150 Supercrew with the 4.6. And I recieved immediately an alert about the recall.

I really wonder how long it will take to replace this part. Couple of hours maybe? I never owned anything new enough to get recalled.

We contacted our dealer & were told it would take about an hour and a half to disable the system. They couldn't fix until they get the parts in which would be sometime in April  Good thing I checked & found out neither of our vehicles are affected by this.

Ford told CNN that they could disable the system for free right now. At first I did not understand why they would disable this, but now I realize that disabling the system (Cruise Control) it stops the electrical from going to the C.C. motor or whatever is broken.

What are they doing? Just pulling a fuse, unpluging motor? I wish I knew so I could do it myself. I guess pulling a fuse would'nt take an hour and a half. But seriously! I really wonder how long it will take to replace the new part. Will ford compensate if it takes more than a day? e.g. rental car?

My Ford Dealer told me that they disconnect the wire and cap it off and it should only take about 10 minutes to perform the actual work. I think the longer estimates are including time to get it in and out of the shop in case they are busy when you get there.

yea, all they are doing is disconnecting it and putting electrical tape over the wired end, then twist tie it to a safe place.

Thanks for the pic. I'm going to do mine and *then* call about the VIN.
