So I was pricing out a Raptor on Ford's website (window shopping really) and I noticed that its possible to order it with a sunroof.

I thought: "really? With all the bouncing around the truck was designed for, a sunroof? If thats just the standard sunroof from any F-150, wouldn't it just get pulled apart while bouncing around?"

Anyone else think that a sunroof seems like a bad idea on a vehicle like this? Or better yet: anyone know if its more than just the standard sunroof?

When I was in my gf's uncles raptor I noticed his has a sunroof. as far as i could tell it looked like a normal f150 sunroof. I cant see there being any problems with it, i mean all 4 side windows go up and down, whats wrong with a sunroof?

I've owned a lot of vehicles with sunroofs and never had a sunroof pop out or anything (or even leak for that matter). The ride inside is quite smooth even on rough terrain. It's got the same F150 doors, tailgate, glass all around too and those don't seem to be popping off either.

Only thing I can think could cause me grief is the plastic grill, but from my experience not many rocks or debris gets to it anyway.

I was thinking that a vehicle intended for high-impact driving (like jumps), the sunroof would eventually rattle loose. Or at least, SOMETHING would rattle loose in it. But if its that well built in, I guess not.

As far as the plastic grille: I'd prefer it. Rocks ding and nick metal, but unless they are heavy enough, will just bounce of plastic. A rock big enough to damage the plastic grille would probably leave a large mark in the metal one as well.

Only time will tell I guess. Many of us probably won't push the truck quite as far as they designed it for, so only those really pushing the truck to the limit will be able to comment on how well it holds up.

Yeah I do like the grill, just heard many comments about a flimsy plastic grill though. I hate painted surfaces on the front of a truck, and I really hate chrome, so black plastic is about the best for me.

You won't have any problems with a sunroof, there aren't any loose parts in it. Sure, it could get off-track just like any normal window, but it's less likely since there is probably less shock on the roof than there is in a door.
