I have a 99 F-150 5.4L. I scored 2 14" Magnaflow 2.5" mufflers for free. After reading quite a few threads on lowend, exhaust velocities, etc, I think I am only going to use one of them. I was thinking of replacing all 4 cats, with 2 high flows, and a single 14" Magnaflow dumped before the axle. I think this will be better performance wise than running true duals with 2.5" pipe, not too mention much cheaper. My only concern is I am not sure what it will sound like.

you can run true duals as long as you don't go larger than 2.5 inch pipes

an H or an X pipe will help balance the system...

Just go with a straight pipe with no muffler, will sound great and saves allot of money....why replace the cats? Also, true duals will give you what? not much more of anything that a straight pipe will.

I wound up just dumping a single magnaflow. It is not anywhere near loud enough, so I may try and either remove the pre-cats, or replace all 4 with 2 high flows. I do not want to lose any low end, so I am still up in the air.
