Being 6'6" my new ranger 2005 fx4-level 2 leather seats/headroom combination left me a bit cramped and sitting ockwardly. Leaving my back in pain. The seating postion just wasn't natural for my height.

The solution came in removing 1.5 inches from the seat supports. If you have the same seats as me and your good with a hacksaw/welder this is how I did it.

1) remove your seat. I think it was a 17mm socket.
2) I had a roll of that badge colored tape. It's 3/4" thickness. Looking down at the mounts from the side you'll run a line of tape close to the edge of the mount, top of the mount. Then two lines below. Remove the top line of tape and you have a 1.5" masked off area you'll be cutting out.
3) remove the side piece of plastic with a star screw driver. The handle has to come off first its also with the star driver.
4) Okay so its all cut out and you've got your pices you want to weld back in place. Hold your cut out sections next to your seat/piece that will be placed back in. You can rougly see how far back you will weld the mount back in.
4.5) Tac weld both front legs in place.
5) bolt the back legs down in the cab. Place seat back in cab and bolt it down. Is it straight over hte back peices? No okay reposition one of the fronts, check again. Is it straight now?
6) With seat in truck move it foward to expose the rear pieces. Mark some lines so you know where they are being positioned. Take everything out an tac the rear legs in place
7) Check to make sure its all going to fit. If its off a bit repostion the legs check again. Then weld her all up. Toss a quick coat of black over your welds and your done.

Yes I know this isn't the best how to but bascially thats how I did it. Anybody who can work with a welder/hack saw should be able to do this. It got the seat down 1.5inches. I can sit perfectly straight. My line of sight is better. Its just a win win thing.

Sounds like a good fix for your height issue, but I can't help but wonder about the structural integrity of the seat. What about safety? Do you think you compromised anything by your mod?

Still sounds like a very ingenious solution. Nice write-up.

No it should be just as strong or stronger then how it came stock.

The forward/backward motion of the seat moves 100% to its capabilities.

Everything underneath clears just fine.

Add power lumbar support now and you'll be really comfortable.

Kinda odd the cloth FXII drivers seat has manual lumbar support but not the leather...
