Ok, I'm going to leave this post for info to those wondering what to do with their factory exhaust. I too couldn't figure out what to do. I have a '97 F150 with a 5.4L. I wanted good sound, but not loud in the cab. I also didn't want to spend a ton of money. I opted to cut the factory muffler off and had a local guy (who is awesome) run a "Y" and duals out behind the rear tires with chrome tips. No muffler. The sound is awesome, it sounds raw, but not loud in the cab and can't hear it going down the Interstate. My wife doesn't even complain. I have had single chamber flowmasters that I just couldn't handle,so don't be afraid go straight.

I bet that thing is loud 99lariat, it's because these Fords have 4 converters that I opted for no muffler. Does your truck run better or worse without the cats. I don't think I would ever mess wit 'em myself?

i would advise taking them off and replacing them with some high flows. if you take them off at all. it doesn't sound great. its really loud but its jut loud, no defined tone. i have a sound clip if you want to hear it.
