After about 10 minutes of driving, the overdrive "off" light starts blinking. Goes out when I shut off the truck. Transmission does slip between 3rd + 4th gear. What could be going on?

when mine flashed it turned out to be a problem with the speed sensor on the transmission.

some code readers like snap-on will pick up transmission codes from your pcm. if the light flashes then the pcm is putting out a code which will tell you what the problem is. try going to a mechanic to get them to read just the code for 5 or 10 bucks.

my truck used to slip really bad between 3rd and 4th until i installed a shift kit. after two years the transmission still works perfectly.

If you're in the US, many parts stores will read & clear OBD-II codes free. Call around.

a regular obdii reader won't read transmission codes, at least most of the ones i've seen don't do it. i tried a few on my truck when the speed sensor was going bad and the only one that picked up a code was the snap-on reader.

I am having the same problem. Was told that the code was for the torque converter clutch solenoid. Has anyone ever replaced this part before. I have a 97 f-150 with 131,000 miles.
