My Windshield wipers died this week.(the first thing I checked was the fuse it was good) I fixed a vacuum leak last weekend and this week I noticed that the wipers didn't work. I thought Maybe when I had part of the dash out I messed something up. I couldn't find anything so I gave up and took it to the shop down the street. He came to the conclusion that the motor went bad(he said he put 12V to it and it didn't do anything) and he also said that it took out the wiper control module(not too sure how he came to that conclusion or how he tested it) and that it took out a fuse in the engine compartment. My thought was that Isn't the purpose of the fuse to prevent such an failure from destroying the module? second question is he just replacing both parts because he doesn't know which one went bad. How does he know that module went bad? I couldn't afford to pay him what he wanted to fix it all so I paid him the diagnostic fee and I guess I'm gonna shade tree it unless you guys advise me otherwise.
Diagnostic fee 59.00 Wiper Control module 166.90 Labor 68.00 Wiper motor 155.04 labor 102.00 Tax 26.56 --------------------------------------- Total 518.50
