greetings

picked up the oj mobile this evening. 1995 bronco with the 351 v8. I want to service the oil and filter tomorrow. I have never owned a vehicle with this large of an engine. with winter coming on what oil viscosity would be recommended to run. the normal 10/40 or something different. I live in indianapolis so it will be a colder climate for winter.

thanks dc

From what I have heard 10-40 breaks down more than 10-30 over time making the engine dirty. It get's to be around 100-110 degrees here in the summer, and as cold as minus 3 in the winter. So I use 5-30 in the winter, and 10-30 in the summer. I use Valvoline, but any certified oil that you are partial to is fine.

thanks for the response. I use valvoline myself in my nissan. I will probably stick with them or try the new lucas product. I have had great success with their oil additives in my 69 plymouth and 90 i-6.

regards,

Of course Dan the broken record would say auto-rx since you just picked up a used vehicle. But besides that.

Go to walmart. Pick up some Rotella T Syn 5w40. There you go. It won't sheer nearly as badly. It's perfect for your flat tappet cams. It's a group III oil with a decent price. It will handle your winters and your summers.

Avoid the Valvoline All Climate. Avoid the Lucas bright stock SAE 250 sticky "oil stablizier".
