Post subject:  Heater core Change

Is it a very hard operation.I've got an 86 f150 with air.I've changed the heater core on my 82 corvette and if it's anything like that I'm just going to take it to the shop.I've decided that since it's in such good condition that I'm going to go ahead and do it right. It was going to be a dump/home depot hauler, but this truck is in to good of condition. All the exterior tim is all there.Needs a polish but its all there no dents in trim or body.In fact it's got a twenty foot paint job on it now. It's a dark blue metallic with silver on the side.So I guess I'll be around asking all kinds of stupid questions. Thanks in advance for all your help, just don't tell me I have to take out the dash and right front fender for the heat thing.

I don't think the late 80's trucks are that difficult. Certainly not like the late models. I believe you can take the dash box out and work through there.

It's one of the easiest things to do on '80-96 trucks. Unclamp the heater hoses & point them up so they don't drain, remove the glove box, remove ~7 screws & the heater core cover, pull the heater core out. 30 min. total if you're slow. The hardest part will be the 3 phillips screws in the bottom of the glove box; a stubby works, but an offset is better.

just go to autozone or somewhere and pick one up, their cheap. if i remember correctly the one i bought about 5 years ago was like 20 bucks.

it really is easy to change. mine is accually just sitting in my truck right now. i couldnt get the vents to close so it was constatly blowing hot air out of the dash. i took the hoses off and hooked them together.

I'd advise against entering "the zone". :puke:

Look for a Modine or Motorcraft core, and when you install it, run a new copper wire from the metal of the heater core thru a seam in the box to a good ground.

steve83.This install isn't going to be more difficult because my truck has AC?Thanks for the help.I'll stay away from the zone.I usually have my shop machinac order my stuff.I'll see what he can get.I'll wait for tour reply before I go any further.

IIRC, it's much harder if you DON'T have A/C.
