The engine makes a loud tapping noise. Does the oil pump have a fuse. It has oil and hasn't been run without it, to my knowledge.

240,000 miles on it, straight 6.

an engine with that many miles is entitled to some tapping.

the oil pump has no fuse.

I don't think I've ever heard a 300 6 cylinder NOT make a tapping noise. Unless it's horribly loud or something, I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with Chuck. Mine has about 300Kmi, runs smooth & strong, and rattles like a diesel.

You can convert the original FAKE oil pressure gauge to actually work by replacing the sender switch with an old-style pressure sender (NAPA/Echlin PN OP6091), then jumpering the resistor on the back of the instrument cluster. (For a V8 engine, you'd also need a brass plumbing extension to clear the block.) These photos are from me converting my Crown Vic, but the parts on your truck look the same.
