I just put new u-joints on.I cant seem to get the little half circle retaining clips that go on the inside of the yolk on the rear end side u joint. They went in ok on the transmission end.It seems like there is just not enough room.Any one just leave these clips off?Any advice from you experienced u-joint installers?

Are you sure the cups are seated fully? SOmetimes one of the needle bearings falls and won't allow the cup to seat completely. To make sure you need to be able to see the full snap ring groove in the yolk.

Yes the snap rings went in fine.(the ones on top of the caps). Its the ones on the inside behind the caps.I can see a little bit of the groove but then it disapears into the yoke. Its almost like the yoke is in a v shape narrowing towards the back.I put the drive line back on the truck and took it for a little test drive. every thing seems ok so far???Knock on wood.It seems to me that the snap rings on the outside of the caps will hold every thing in.The old u-joints that I took out didnt have these clips either.

"Yoke" - not "yolk" ;)

You don't need an inner AND outer snap ring on the same cap. Use either both outers or both inners, depeding on how the yoke is made. On the rear d'shaft, you typically only use outer snap rings.

This is a Ford diagram, but they probably got it from Spicer (Dana now). If you check any website that deals with u-joints, you'll probably find the same one. No u-joint cap needs 2 snap rings.
