i would think the excal would be more fined tuned to a specific vehicle with mods. i have the superchip and im happy with it. it can recal tire size, rear axle gears, shift points, rev limiter etc. i dont have any fancy mods on my rig so i figure the superchip would suit me fine. (preferece i guess)
I have the XcalII I never used a chip, but you don't open your computer, comes with three programs
Street, Towing Performance, can be used as a scan tool and reset computer codes, can download free software to even make changes your self, I love my Xcall
