Does anyone have or has anyone seen a tiregate? I saw it on a tv show the other day and thought they were kinda cool looking. Just wondering if anybody has an experience with them and how they work and look.

Tiregate

That's where I saw it too. I was just wondering if anybody had one or actually saw one in person.

thousand bucks? i don't think so.

any metal fab shop will probably make one for half that or less. just show them a picture and tell them it costs $450 but is hard to find.

I figured on doing it myself. Looks really simple to make...just some bent tube and welding.... I would never pay that much for something I can do myself.

The fab work is the easy part. Who's gonna design it so it doesn't sag, buckle the bedside, rip out the mounting bolts, swing open while you're driving on a bumpy road, or hyperextend into your taillight? Then there's the powdercoating... I'd say $1K is reasonable for a well-built product.

amen to that. easy and cheap dont always mean correct and dependable.

i think the fun is in designing something that works. if it doesn't work the first time then try it again.

i believe there is no fun in spending thousands on stuff that you know is going to work just to sit there and stare at it.

I agree with steve604....I like to use my mind to figure out why it doesnt work and how I can improve on the initial design to fit my needs more. And saving money never hurts either...

Besides all that, if they didn't want me to pilfer their ideas and build my own, they wouldn't give me so many close up pictures of the bracing and hinging mechanisms.
Also, they don't make one for my truck, so I guess I'm on my own.

Those tire gates look the best on pre running trucks. I dont think it will look that hot on just a plain normal truck.
