i've never heard of this on an f150, but my girlfriennds mom had a ford car that did the same thing. it would idle at around 2000, it turned out to be a sensor on the transmission. It might help to clean the IAC(idle air control) on the back of the carbueretor, there is a section on it in the throttle body cleaning post. Hope this helps, by the way what year is it? |

i'm not really sure on this one, if i'm wrong someone please correct me. If your trans is equiped with a vacuum modulator that controls trans fluid pressure from a vacuum line from the engine you might want to check it for cracks or breaks. I'm not sure if yours is or not. You also might want to check your MAP sensor. And again i'm not sure on this so dont hold me to it. If your trans doesnt have a vacuum line to it then it will either have a throttle cable that is actuated and moves the throttle valve when you press on the pedal, if yours is like this, check the cable for sticking. i'm about clueless but thats just my 2cents, hope it may help |

my 92 did the same thing First off there is no carbrauter its called the throttle body the IAC should be on the right side of it there are just 2 bolts 1 on top 1 underneath and a plug on the end unplugg it and pull it off the throttle body you should make a new gasket so go get some gasket paper and copy the old one clean the inside of the IAC out with throttle body cleaner as good as you can and bolt it back on dont forget the gasket if this does not fix the problem try the TPS (throttle position sensor) |

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51632 How many tubes connect to the top of the air filter box? 1 or 2? What transmission? If you don't know, post the TRANS code from the door jamb sticker. If the PCV system has been neglected, or if the oil hasn't been changed on schedule, the IAC may be contaminated & sticking. Cleaning it might allow it to work for little while, but they don't last long after cleaning. |
