Ok, I recently bought an 84 F-150, 300 six cylinder, 4x4, with the 4spd granny gear tranny. A buddy of mine just gave me an 88 model 302 out of a lincoln. The 302 is fuel injected and the 300 isnt. I want to do the swap by making the 302 carbureted. Is there anybody that could help me out maybe with a guidline for me to go by? I have never done this before. Also, do I have to get a new flywheel or anything? Thanks guys.
it maybe as simple as swaping out the intake. I am not quite sure if the early '80s carb motor heads are the same as the later '80s injected heads, but they are close. I did a kind of similar thing with a 302 from a '79 and one from an '87. The '79 had a carb , and i wanted the serpentine belt system and reverse water pump from the '87 motor. It all bolted right up. I tore the '87 motor down for spare parts, and alot of it is the same as the older motor but I never pulled the heads from my older motor, that is why I'm not quite sure. If you are planning to mate the 302 to the tranny you have on the 300, you will have to check the bell housing bolt patterns to see if there the same. I'm a Ford guy but Ford products aren't the greatest for interchangability.
thanks mike, so far i know that i will have to put an electric fuel pump on there and i will have to change out the motor mounts, changing oil pans and like you said about changing the intake. The 302 im putting in there is the one with a serpentine belt. Im just hoping im not getting too deep into this to where it would be best just to find an old carbureted motor out of an f150. I was only doing this because a buddy gave me the motor and its only got 75000 miles on it.
