| so i picked up a used brushguard for pretty cheap for my truck. it's powdercoated, not chrome. i was just wanting some tips on how i can keep this thing from rusting. it sucks seeing new trucks with black brushguards that are half covered in rust. thanks for any input |

| I put a Ranchhand brushguard on my truck and after 1.5 years it is starting to look like crap. The welds are poor and sloppy and the powdercoating is thin and not even completely covered in the seams. Most seam areas are sarting to bleed rust. I am planning on taking it off, having someone blast it for me, and then getting it line-x'd. I know it will cost me some money, but the guard is stout as all can be, just not the best finish quality. Great for a "ranch" truck, but not something that you would like to shine. If you picked it up for the right price, you may wnat to look into coating it with something like a bed liner material if that is the look for you and that should protect it fairly well. Erik |

| i have a frontier gear full replacement on my truck (basically same as the ranch hand). i live along the coast and the front bumper took a nice sandblasting and rusting.
i went by home depot and picked up some rustoleum that's called rust stopper or something. goes on flat black, but has done a nice job stopping the rust. i'm giving it a few coats of that (1 can will cover the whole bumper and a few spots on my rear one) and then was gonna throw a few coats of some gloss black rustoleum. looks pretty good, and it's pretty cheap if you can avoid run spots.
to get the thing re-coated was gonna be multiple hundreds and linex was gonna be around $300. i only paid $450 for it new (got a good deal due to a scratch) so those options didn't work for me. just my two cents. |

| the rustoleam product works great, used it before, as we sell tons of these at the hardware store... thinking about what IBEB said about recoating it...you can take it off the truck prepare it like you normally would for paint and hit it with heruliner...it's one of those D.I.Y. bedliner products. used it once before i believe a kit goes for around $60, could probably do the guard a couple times over, just a thought _________________ 2004 F150 XLT Screw
