Hello all, new member here. I have a 2007 F150 5.4 that sometimes when starting the starter will turn over for a second then stop, this will last anywhere from 3 minutes to 30 minutes it then will start right up. I have had the truck into 4 different dealers approximately 5 times for warranty work and all say nothing is wrong with the truck.
I had had rough idle issues and eventually they (Ford)plugged in their computer and said the number 6 cylinder was missing. They replaced the coil and spark plug and fixed the issue. It was like pulling teeth to get this done. The truck is now running rough again but that is not so much of a problem as the starting issue. Has anyone else had this type of issue? Truck was bought new and the issue started at 20000kms and I fear that they are putting it off until the warranty is up.
Any help would be great,
Adam

Adam:
Try calling higher up the food chain in Ford if you are not satisfied with the dealerships. I have an '07 5.4l as well and have had that problem two or three times in the last two months. I turn the key and it cranks a split second then stops, but the next turn it starts right up. Not sure why it would do that, has to be electrical as our trucks are completely electrical right down to the fly by wire gas pedal. It's under warranty take it back, be firm with them, treat them like s**t as soon as you walk in. You have to appear that you are in control or they (stealership) will walk all over you. Cheers from Montreal! Mark

Thanks Mark, I am taking it in tomorrow morning as I can't stand it any longer. In a sick way it is comforting to know mine is not the only truck doing it. I'll post the results. If they say nothing is wrong then I will go back to hounding Ford Canada. -Adam

Treat them like sh*t as soon as you walk in. That will get you no where if you have that kind of attitude, thats bad advice, there's a way to get what you need done without treating anybody like S**T and thats everything in life. Just be firm and direct, but by all means dont treat anyone like S**T you will get nowhere with them with that attitude. I would show you the door if you came to my shop and treated people like s**T there, you'd get a boot in ya ass and out the door you go. Right to refuse service to anyone applies with car dealers also. Hope you get it fixed. I noticed 1 or 2 times when turn the key if I dont turn it all the way it want start or do nothing no cranking noise, I just didn't turn the key all the way those few times. Good luck

Well truck was in the dealer for 8 hours. Apparently they found a loose ground on the starter? They stated they chased the harness and found "issues" a various locations. They can't say if that was causing the starting issues but couldn't be good for the truck, time will tell. They found the number 2 cylinder injector to be failing, they replaced it and truck idles much smoother. I almost forget it is running when stopped at a light. The ford dealer stated they have been having problems with the injectors on the 5.4 litres.
Thanks everyone for your help,

Having same issue with mine. It seems to occur only when I am running aorund town and am getting in and out of my truck (read: lots of turning off and on). I have found that it never does this if I turn the key to "ACC" and wait two seconds and then turn it over.

4.6- I guess I kind of did tell on them in this forum....hehehe. Truck seems to be running much better and my mileage has increased by about 2-3 miles per gallon since the injector fix (though I have only put 2 tanks of fuel through). Originally the Ford dealer told me that the rough idle was normal for the 5.4.....I wonder how many other people are running around with the same issue thinking it is normal. Thanks again everyone for all your help!
