Ford F150 - 1992 f 150 downshifts for no reason while driving downhill

I just got this truck its very clean and did all maintence. it drove fine for the first 2 weeks and all the sudden started downshifting while drivig flat ground and while applying just barely any gas just enougt to maintain same speed. Also the button on the end of the shifter doesn't work. and cruise control doesn't work. any idea's on how to figure out whats going on. thanks

in my area, Checker and Auto Zone will hook up their computers and pull codes for free. I'd start there...
