PostPosted: Tue Sep 02, 2008 5:18 pm    Post subject: Painting Frame Quote

I have a frame sitting in my garage that is going to replace the one on my truck now. I have cleaned it and am working on getting some of the rust off.

My question is, does anybody have any suggestions on what type of paint would work well with a frame that has some rust on it? Also, I am looking for something that is cost efficient.

Thanks

i suggest you contact your local body shop or automotive paint supply store. let them know what your trying to accomplish and they should be able to set you up with the correct product. i recommend comparing the price of a cheap paint gun and supplies to the cost of spray cans, that is a huge job painting an entire chassis and the amount of money spent on rattle cans/paint bombs will really start adding up. also the finished job will be of a better quality using pro-type equipment.

Jason,
Have always wanted to do a frame up rebuild & use linex on the frame, the spray bed liner stuff....but would probably cost a month's pay. Have heard of people painting their entire truck with the stuff but have never seen 1. Pretty tuff stuff on my bed.

i was thinking about doing two tone with the bottom 6 inch of the truck being rhino lined

Hi, how's the budget? If you can afford it, have the frame powdercoated or painted. You just deliver & pick up. Otherwise, remove all the rust, sand, wire wheels,(naval jelly, rust reformer). Prime & paint W/sprayer using bulk auto/grade paints. NAPA is a source of paint info. Couple of saw horses, helpers & you'll be fine. Take care, POWERUPP.

I don't want to go the rhino way. That might be a little on the heavy side. Although I did want to do that at first.

Talk to a couple of other people and they suggested POR15 or Eastwood company.
