| I am new to the forum and have found many of the posts helpful. I just traded in my 2005 F-150 Super Crew with the 5.4 engine. I just bought a 2008 Super Cab with a 4.6 engine. I know I'm sacrificing some power but is the 4.6 still a good motor? Does it work well for everyone who has it. Just obsessing about my purchase! lol _________________ Mark Pastor |

| 4.6l is a good motor for the Mustang not so much an F150. I have heard a lot of good things about the 4.6l just didn't meet my needs of power and prformance. Fuel mileage isn't any better, towing capacity is lower, motor has to work harder to do the same as the 5.4l. But the 5.4l has issues with spark plugs etc etc, we could go on and on. It is personal preference, you may love the 4.6l and it fits your driving style and never have a complaint and that is what really matters. My 2 cents, cheers. |

| does it matter now since you've already bought it? this seems like a question you'd ask before you made the trade, after you're kinda stuck with it. |

| i had an '06 f150 stx with the 4.6L was a good engine, never had any problems with power, but never did a lot of towing or hauling
now i have an '04 f150 xlt with the 5.4L, and what a difference, i do like the 5.4 with more power and torque, then add a programmer and its got loads of power, but the 4.6L is still a good engine
good luck with it!!! _________________ 2004 F150 XLT Screw

| I have the 07 4.6 and love it. I wouldn't call it "under powered" just not as powerful. I just pulled my boat 275 miles to the beach and had no problems with power. I never took it out of over drive and ran with cruise control all the way with tons of gear and three adults. I never even felt a tug back there and we averaged between 65 and 70 mph all the way. I also tow a camper that weighs about between 6 and 7000 pounds. I do notice the trailer but it still pulls just fine. I could have gotten a 5.4 but liked the features and price of this vehicle. Enjoy your new truck!!! |

| I recently got an F150 as well with the 4.6 and I couldn't be happier. I think the only thing that would make perfect for me would be a 3.73 or 3.77 rear (whichever is the Ford ratio) and a tuner.
Right after I sell my old Tahoe I plan on getting the tuner and cover for the bed. |

Hey maniadj, it probably won't be so bad since you have just the Scab with the 4.6L. I'm still pissed I should have gotten the 5.4 with my Screw especially since it's a 4x4. Buuuut, I can't complain about it. I recently did 19.9 MPG with mine.
Hey alchemist, what was your mileage towing the boat?
karr95, for Ford it's the 3.73. _________________ Double( . )( . )Dee - (it's my initials, don't get any ideas)

| I didn't check, but on similar trips I got between 15 and 17 MPG. I get about 14 pulling the camper. |

| I've never heard of piston slap in a Ford 5.4??? whoever said that is mistaken. Chevy's have piston slap!
Tomsf150 is smoking crack if he says the 5.4 is a piston slapping-injector eater. We run our 5.4's up to 350,000km at work with no motor issues whatsoever. 4.6's are great motors as well.....I consider both of them to be nearly bulletproof. |

| I have the 4.6 liter supercrew 07, and i am very happy with it, has some good get up and go on the highway. Making a few mods on it, Flowmaster exhaust and air intake are next... then should be quite fine, the 4.5 liter on the top end is very good. No complaints here, sure lacks 50 h.p. from the 5.4 but i like it. _________________ At first you cant beleive the gas it guzzles down.

| very true...no spark plug problems on the 4.6
you can always go and add a programmer, exhaust and c.a.i. if you want more power _________________ 2004 F150 XLT Screw
