i'm looking to buy some new rims for my truck. do i have to get rims with bolt pattern 5 on 135 only?

Not sure if you are looking for original equipment or aftermarket 18's, but you absolutely want to get the correct bolt pattern, lug nut seat style, offset, backspacing, and centerbore.
There are many places to shop for what you want. Forum classifides, Ebay, Craigslist, swapmeet, online and local wheel shops.

lloking for aftermarket rims. i have stock 17's and i think the bolt pattern is 5 on 135

I had to look it up, but according to dicounted wheel warehouse, your 2000 F150 wheels are 5x135. I would look for wheels with that same bolt pattern. If you use a different bolt pattern, you will have to use spacers to make them fit.
