4.0 L 2X4 XTRA CAB

I'm getting around town about 15.5 miles to the gallon.

Has anyone found successful ways to increase their gas mileage?

I saw one post mention the velocity tuner air intake tornado making a dramatic difference. www.velocitytuner.com

I've read about adding about 2 ozs of Acetone to each 10 gallons of gas making a dramatic difference.

I can find many claims that these have worked on owner's vehicles and I can find some claims that they didn't work.

It seems it depends on the vehicle and possibly where you live.

Most of these gadgets have money back guarantees, I'm thinking about trying them one at a time and returning them if they don't do anything.

Please only give me replies with experiences with products/modifications.

Thanks

Your MPG is concerning. I have virtually the same truck, mine is 93 Ranger XLT 4.0, 2 x 4 long bed AT and I routinely get 21-22mpg daily driving. This past weekend I towed a ~1250lb boat and trailer and avg 17.8 up and down mountain passes throuh Central California.

I run regular gas, nothing special

Save your money.

You're probably doing about as well as you can expect being at ~6000+ feet altitude and doing mainly city driving, which is always tough on fuel mileage.

Keep in mind that you have a 15 year old truck and the condition of the engine will come into play if it has not already.

You wanted experiences...fine. My Ranger was dropping into the 17-20 MPG range last year. On a 94 2.3L/5-speed. End result, zero compression on cylinder 4. Oh well, 284,000ish miles does that.
