i took my truck to my regular mechanic today do get a full tune-up done and 3 of the 4 spark plugs broke on the drivers side and so he did not attempt the passenger side of the motor - he followed the ford info for remving them to the letter and it still happened - he warned me upfront that mine was the first he has seen - after it happened he called and the quote fro snap-on for the removal tool was over $300 - anybody know where we can get one cheaper? i called the rotunda company but they had closed about 10 minutes earlier so we dont know their price - i still want my guy to do the job, just need help finding tool for best price - he has always done me right in the past and i trust him - also anybody know of a class action against ford for this yet? if so send me the info adn im on board - why should i have to pay extra and risk ruining my motor due to them using an obvious pis-poor design (typical engeneer very smart and no sense at all) just so they can save some money on production instead and not worrying about this since the truck will not be under warrenty when this usually happens - things like this is why toyota and other foreign ar companies are taking over the U.S. market - they care about their name and reputation enough to fix issues like this instead of waiting for you to sue them or people die like with the cruise control and firestone tire problems

Hi crzyjunyer, sorry to hear about your plug issue. I have read the tool from 1-800-Rotunda is approx $130. E-bay has them listed for $230 or make offer. There is alot of online info about the broken plug issue. I also seen a homemade tool story listed by doing a search. Hope this helps, POWERUPP.

Well here it is the post on a homemade removeal tool, tried by several with success.
http://www.f150online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=325382&page=2

By the way the procedure for plug removeal has three tsb's... Did your mechanic follow it to the letter on a room temp engine, and blast the plugs after turning them 1/8 to 1/4 turn with PB Blaster or Ford intake manifold cleaner? I used the PB Blaster and it disolved the carbon on the ground shield. I just changed all plugs successfully without breaking any.
Good luck.....

yea - i took it to him the nite before and he waited until the afternoon when the temp was around 80 yesterday - he reccomended to me this morning to have it towed to the dealer to let them do it since they have more experience (lots of trucks f-ed up like this) and the estimiate they gave me was $575 and will prob take 2-3 days and that is if they dont have to remove the heads to get the plugs out - i called ford about this and they basicly told me sorry you are out of warrenty - so much for that - im about to call a lawyer adn check into starting the class action suit myself - that is rediculous and they know its a problem so they had a tool made and sent to the dealer and changed the design for the 07 trucks - i wish i had bought the tundra i was looking at instead now - it was just like my dads but 2 years older - the tune up for his was only $275 and took 2 1/2 hours - like a tune up should - i now think that toyota is not kicking fords butt as bad as ford is doing it to themselves - im not asking them to pay for the whole change - just the added expense from their screw-up and poor design and cheap parts- is that too much to ask for a company to take care of its customers after the sale ? especially when they know that they have this problem - i kinda wish now i had financed it through ford - id tow it back to the factory and drop in the front door and tell them where they can put it - but i may get better results by putting it on hardcopy's door instead

Still blows my mind that this is a problem created by Ford, yet they are passing the costs to their customers. Why are you having to purchase a tool to remove something the rest of the world uses a simple socket wrench for?

I bought an 06 F150 after the past 10 years of swearing I'd never own another Ford because of all the issues we had with them. I really haven't had any problems with this truck yet but I've only had it for 12,000 miles and it just came out of warranty.

Bring on the problems

ive only had this truck for less than a month now - i got it at a good price - that is why i got it over another tundra i was looking at (less miles, more money, but 2 years older) - this is 5th truck and the 4th ford i have owned in the 12 1/2 years since i turned 16 - and if ford is not willing to do anything to help me on this it WILL be my last - i will become yet another former ford owner that they have screwed over into becoming a ford hater - i like the way the truck rides, the interior layout of it, styling, and the way it sounds and pulls my bass boat - but if this is the typical routine maintence B.S. to look forward to with it - its not worth it - right now i think ford stands behind thier products about as well as the dixie chicks stand behind our troops - not at all

we called them this morning and their price was $169.25 from rotunda - i appreciate the help - my source at the dealership says the svc manger is looking at covering the added cost of the change for the broken plugs over the normal cost of a regular plug change - i have not heard from the manager himself about this yet though - he is supposed to call me back shortly - if they will do that i will be happy -i was expecting and have no problem paying for normal maintenence - i just dont think i should have to pay extra for a problem with doing normal maintenence that the factory knows is a serious problem - they did not engineer, design, build, and ship a special tool to every dealership for an occasional or isolated incodence - i think ford shuold pay for their own factory screw ups not me - especially on a truck that cost over 30 grand new
