I need to tow a vehicle using one of those uhaul rental dollies. My truck is a 2000 F150 regular cab and I only have the bumper mounted hitch. I have used the truck to tow all kinds of boat trailers and such but wanted to get a second opinion on towing a car like this. The vehicle that will be towed is a very small Honda civic hatch with a curb weight of 2200 lbs. I am unsure what my bumper mounted hitch is rated for. Does anyone know offhand what it should be for this year?
is it a hitch ball mounted to the bumper or a 2" reciver mounted to bumper or frame - makes a big difference - if you use uhaul they will run it through thier computer (you can do it online as well) and see if it (computer) will let you - if the computer says no the uhaul place will not let you rent it - the reason for this is not pulling it - its stopping it - a 4-banger ranger will pull it but it will just get pushed around trying to stop and control it - if you have a owners manual it will tell you what you can safelly haul depending on your truck weight, motor size, tranny, and rear axle ratio - if no manual find anybody with one in that year model and it will have the info you need _________________ an unloaded gun is just an expensive paperweight
I called uhaul and the guy behind the counter said it would be ok and allowed me to make a reservation. It is just a ball mounted on the bumper. I don't have the owners manual and the truck is not at home right now but I will check it later.
I'm gonna say the bumper rating is this: 500 lb tongue weight, and a 5000 lb gross trailer weight. So, yeah, you should be fine, weight wise, towing the import...
