well to make a long story short. i took my truck in to get it appraised at carmax. (probably first mistake). after test driving a couple other trucks and waiting for them to finish with my truck. i get the results back. they were only going to give me 13,000 for it. my f150 only has 30,000 miles and is in pretty decent condition. i bought the truck last year for about $22,000 with about 14,500 miles on it. what a freakin joke. it drop almost ten grand in a year. kellys blue book said for mine i should get atleast $16,500 for it. i didnt think the dealer that sold me the truck was serious when they said it would depriciate that quickly.

Carmax is going to lowball the hell out of you. You'ld be better off selling it to an individual (probably tough right now with gas prices). Any dealer will lowball you on a trade in or appraisal. They are basically going to give you less than wholesale for the car/truck. I was going to trade my 99 f150 (very well taken care of) in and a dealer wanted to give me 2000 for it. I turned and around and put it on Craigslist and sold it for 5500.

With newly redesigned '09 models just around the corner you can expect to take a pretty serious hit in trade-in value. I have an '02 and have watch the value drop with the '04 and up body style, I'd hate to see where it comes in now with the '09 coming out.

I have an 07 FX2 w/17k on in it. The truck is in absolutely MINT condition. The sticker on the truck was 34k when I bought it (March 2007) and carmax only offered me 18k for it. I laughed at him!!!!! I was pretty pissed

wow what a joke. wat a slap in the face. i did the same thing after they told me 13k for it. i pretty much left after that. the only reason why i went was to look at there fx4 models. i just need a good trade in value to be able to get a decent one. i have another one lined up that looks in great shape but has 58k miles on it. dont know if i should even bother. is that to many for a truck?

Yeah, a dealer won't give you what it's really worth. I had a 1997 F150 Lariat, in great shape. I was buying a 2008 F150 Lariat 4x4, and the dealer told me that he could get me $2500 for my truck. I laughed at him! I put it on Craigslist for $5000, and had it sold a few hours later!
