During a service, I found a wire that was chewed off by a mouse. Can anyone help me find where this wire connects too?? The wire is connected at one end at the back of the engine on passenger side (between the firewall and valve cover/intake mani area) into a wire loom. It is a 2 prong connector with two 1/16" wires inside a smooth black sleeve. The two wires are colored one black and one yellow. There is about 12" of wire from the connector to the chewed end. It looks like sensor wires due to the small size. It may have went down toward the trans, since that is the direction it went when I found it.

I have some pictures

This picture is a close up shot of the connector that is protruding from the wire loom.

This picture is farther away and you can see the rear injector connector on the passenger side and the intake mani.

what year truck? engine? trans? 4x4 4x2? check engine light on?
looks like a black and yellow/white tracer in that connector. i can picture this connector in my head because you have to unplug it to pull the intake off of the mod motors. but i cannot remeber what it plugs into. its drivin me insane! im thinkin it goes to a sensor underneath the intake.

edit: im thinkin cylinder head temp sensor, or knock sensor...but the wire colors are different...i may be looking at the wrong year wiring diagram...this is driving me nuts

It is a 99 w/ 4.6l 2wd

I think it has something to do with knock sensor, since the engine is having that problem. Looks like the wires are black and yellow.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

yep its a knock sensor! i finally remembered it today at work. it sits about dead in the middle of the engine valley.
i think a new knock sensor includes a new harness or you could try a repair. the intake may have to come off to give you better access.

I think I'm gonna remove the intake and fix the wire myself. Could you tell me if I need to replace the manifold gaskets/seals and if there are any other gaskets/seals/parts I will need to do the job? Like to have everything prior to tearing into it.

yep intake gaskets need to be replaced. of course remember the new sensor and/or wire repair parts. remember to clean off the mounting surfaces and gasket surfaces before putting it all back together with a razor blade and with a small amount of brake clean, being careful not to gouge the lower intake aluminum. i think thats about it. might throw some new plugs while your in there with all the room.
haynes manual will give you a step by step ($20 at advance auto) and any other parts you may need that i cannot recall at this time. good luck!
