| I'm curious as to how everyone determines their best cruising speed for their F150. I have a theory on the subject and have always used it to set up a speed when I'm on the highway. It doesn't always get the best mileage -- that's not the question. The combination of engine, tranny, tire size, tire pressure, differential ratio, road surface, etc, effect the overall cruising speed. I define the cruising speed as driving on a highway or Interstate, obviousely not too fast or too slow. Just the speed that feels right for the vehicle. So how do you decide you are at a good cruising speed for your vehicle? |

| Like you said it all depends on all those factors. I usually set my cruise at 124km/h, about 78mph. I get decent fuel economy at that speed and the truck just runs well for some reason. |

Hi Pukcip, good question. Tests have shown driving 10mph faster than the speed limit increases fuel consumption by 20%. +20mph increases to 25%. Gas consumption at different speeds should be taken into consideration, especially on long trips. Also cruise control helps keep the motor constant on flat roads. I try to split the difference and run 55-65mph in OD. Smooth and quiet. Hope this helps, POWERUPP. _________________ Proud to be driven by FORD!

I agree when you said the truck just runs well and I think the feel is the key.
Here's how I do it. Once I get up to a safe speed on any given road I give the accelerator a slight punch. If the truck jumps then I hold that new speed. Then I repeat until the slight punch on the accelerator just gives me more engine noise but no jump in speed. Then I back off just a tad and hold that as my cruising speed. |

| i stay with in 5 over speed limit and set cruise there - local state trooper told me common rule (not policy) for them is under 5 over - nothing, 5-10 usallly warning (unless you are an ass- his exact words), 11-24 over is auto ticket - and 25 and over usually have reckless driving with the ticket _________________ an unloaded gun is just an expensive paperweight |
