I am having a rough time getting the old rubber gasket from the last transmission filter completely off. When I pulled the old filter out of the yoke, some of the rubber gasket was still in there.

take a 6 inch (or longer for leverage) 3/8 inch extension and use it to pry out the old gasket. works everytime. be careful not to scratch the bore.

Mike:
Thanks for the advice. picture this.... the rubber gasket on the end of the filter is fitting into the groves, so I actually have to get something like a a dental pick or pottery pick to get the rubber out of the grooves or threaded areas. , once the rubber came apart.

The new filters are fitted with metal rings with a rubber type 'gasket'around the inside and outside of the ring (at least in my 96 transmission they are). I just replaced mine today and I actually found 2 or those metal rings stuck inside the transmission yoke for the filter. I carefully loosened the 1st ring and the 2nd one came out a bit easier. Was there a rubber ring around the old filter after you took out? If not then that's what your seeing after you pulled it off. It actually is a part of the filter and the new filter should have one on it already.

thats the problem i was having. I thought that i was scraping the rubber gasket from the yoke, but it was actully the inside of the rubber gasket and not the yoke. When maniac said use an extension i said HMMM lets see what happens, and whammo the old piece popped right out. I never realized that the old Oring had a metal core. THANKS A TON FELLAS BOTH ME AND MY TRANNY THANK YOU GUYS!
