I took off some intake parts so the air blowing off the radiator fan blows air into the air box. The air filter is still there, just less area air has to travel to get to engine. Anything wrong that could happen?

you've created a hot air intake. not a good plan for power and MPGs, but i do not think any harm would happen as long as your had the airfilter there. go back to the stock stuff with a drop in K&N filter. or buy an intake.

I notice plenty of power, the MPG's are low cause of rough idle from something else. Engine unable to control rpm's ect. How does hot air intake differ from cold air?

Cooler air is more dense, hence more BANG on combustion. Old street racers trick, fill your airbox with ice just before a race!

Rough idle could be a lot of things...if it's surging check the EGR, idle motor, and clean out the throttle body. I did it, and helped a lot on my old truck.

With that hot air, you are dropping your MPG. MJSECRIST is right on with cold air.
