| I have a 1997 F-150 with 5.4 with towing package. My overdrive indicator light is flashing and the truck is shifting hard when it changes gears. Any suggestions? The shifter is stiff too. Please help |

| The flashing light is showing a code. There is something not right in the tranmission. The hard shifts are possibly due to high pressures. When mine started this I found a trans shop that would read the codes for free. They recomended a rebuild since it showed sliping on the 1-2 shift. Being the cheapscape I am I changed the filter and fluid. Now I change the it every 20K miles. No problems since. |

| i had the same problem in my 98. it shifts hard when the lights as some kind of saftey precaution. it tells you in the owners manual. i took it too aamco and they reccomended a rebuild. $2600. i then realized i could have got it done for $1000 less at another shop. its been back in the shop 5 times after the rebuild for slippage and leaks. |
