Ford F150 - Super Duty Emg .

I have a 1995 S D with auto trans , E brake is mounted on the rear of trans. Can I replace the Emg. brake shoes by removing the driveshaft & brake drum ? Or do I take the whole unit off the trans ?? Thanks AL
