Hello to all. My F150 since purchased about one year ago always does a clapping sound at all speeds and rpms. It's like it is a diesel engine. it makes a more pronounced sound when accelerationg. When removing my foot of the accelerater it is barely noticable... Any ideas could it be the valves, rods, Need help to make sure if it needs to be fixed and if it will damage the engine. ANY information will be appreciated.

Than you

Does it stop or go quiet when warm? Could be exhaust leak from the engine to the manifold. My 98 does it and I got a buddy with a 2001 does the same thing.

Mine does this also on cold mornings because of the exhaust stud bolt broke off some time ago. I'm too lazy to attach the manifold back to it again but I will get around to it sometime. I'd check all your manifold studs for the problem.

No big deal, if you have extra cash go ahead. And no, not only the dealer can fix this, any muffler shop or do it yourself if your good with tools.

Look on both sides of your motor where the exhaust meets the engine, if it is what I think it is, you will see where the sound is coming from. A exhaust leak from your manifold that meets the motor, either passenger side or drivers, or.....maybe both.

I see this alot on motorhomes and it is bcause the factory does not use exhaust manifold gaskets. It is a big complaint on the V10's. if your good with tools and don't brake any of the bolts off in the heads you can do it in your driveway in a couple of hours. A shop could charge you $400.00 to $600.00 depending on there labor rate and if any of the bolts brake off. Good luck!
