The 7.3 is a dependable engine. It is quite a few miles, but not as bad on a diesel as it is on a gasser. Has it been well maintained? It should start easily, a little harder if low temps, and if it is cold the idle should smooth out quickly.
What trans does it have, manual best then auto w/o overdrive, then with o/d. The auto overdrive trannys are the downfall with these trucks.

Good Luck and follow your gut!

I had a '93, and sold it at 230K miles to size down to my F150. Anyway, the common things that should have been replaced by then, or a least recently, I would inquire with the owner about:
Cam position sensor
Glow plug relay
High pressure fuel pump
Glow plugs
Transmission (if its an automatic)
Front end bushings and tie rods

It is true that the engines in these things will really go a long time. It's the periferal stuff that still wears out. If the PO has the maintenance history, and all the stuff above has been replaced/rebuilt in the last 20K miles, and it drives good and sound, should be OK.

I would say the engine would be ok if it has been well maintained, but if it is an auto, it may be time for a transmission, i would trust it for a while though, If it is a manual, go for it.
