A friend just gave me his Cobra 29 LTD ST. The price was right so I took it but I can't figure out a good place to mount it in my '94 XLT. It seems as if all of the convenient places to mount are nothing but plastic. I would love to put it below the ashtray, that will require a custom bracket. Second choice is right of the steering wheel but there could be some leg clearance issues there. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Trans hump mount. You can get them at Radio Shack. They keep you from drilling holes in your dash...

I put mine to the left of the steering wheel with Velcro so I can remove it without drilling the dash...

I guess modding an older truck that didn't cost me so much was easier years ago... I remember taking a hacksaw to the dash of my Jeep...

If you mount it low, you'll need an external speaker.

That's made from 2 pieces of sheet metal, carefully cut & bent by hand. 1 is screwed to the roof; the other hangs on 2 screw heads in the first, and on the w/s upper trim. It has 1/8" foam padding glued to it, and cheap "duck canvas" on top of that, both from WM. The wiring comes up the A-pillar from the fuse block & the antennae wires go thru the roof down the back of the cab along the bedrails to the bracket on the back of the truck.

I like the setup Steve but I think that I should stay away from bending metal and drilling the roof. I know a good tin man at work that I may be able to pursuade to do something for a few cold frosty beverages though.

Db, I don't know why I didn't think of velcro before though. I think I'll use that for now and work on the overhead for later.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

You ever get together with the Ford truck owners groups? I'd like to take a peek at that setup...
