In the pic below you see this little thumb wheel with the purple wire coming out, that is what you use to adjust the pointer. Look under your dash just below the steering column. Hope that helps.

| I couldn't get that link to work. Maybe just my comptuer. I have a 98 that had the same problem. After I took the dash apart trying to figure it out and just about ruined everything in there, I found that thumb wheel Simoli is talking about. It was black with a white housing. (I'm %90 sure... I could be the other way around) Just rotate that wheel and it should move the orange indicator on the dash. It's helpful to have someone watch the indicator while you turn the small wheel under the steering column.
If you can't figure it out or can't find the wheel let me know and I'll take a picture of it for you. Good luck man, I know how much of a pain that is. I've tried to drive forward with the truck in N so many times. _________________ Maroon4x4

| Good information on subject problem, but before I take apart my dash please consider this.
Upon pulling into my driveway the gear shift lever would not go into Park, rather it settled in between Park and Reverse. The engine will not start in this position, but will start in Neutral. I have a difficult time finding either Reverse or Drive. However, after "feeling" around for those gears I make contact and the transmission operates normally and sounds fine.
Will adjusting the gear shift indicator knob at the steering column fix this problem? _________________ 1997 Ford F-150, 3door extended cab, 4.6 Ltr |

| Often the white bracket that holds the black adjusting wheel breaks. Then the option is replacing the whole mechanism, a time consuming job;
Or you can do what I did. I just took a piece of thin copper wire and wired the white plastic bracket back in place. You can't adjust it with the wheel any longer that way, but if you watch the needle alignment as you wire it back together, it will work. |

| Hey guys, I'm a newbie in here. I have 2000 150 and I have the problem not going into park. I found the little black dial and adjusted both ways to the max. While it did move the selector to the correct place, the lever still won't go into Park at all. I got underneath the truck and manually shifted it to park, but, when I started it in park and went to Drive then it won't go back into park. Is there another ajustment somewhere that I'm missing? Thanks for your help, Burd |

| Ok I have the same problem that Burd has. I tried adjusting that black dial and I still can't put it in park. The needle says park but it won't let me turn the engine on unless I shift it back to neutral. The dial and all mechanism seems fine. I looked through Steve83's steering column photo too(which is great by the way), but is that only for changing the boot on the handle or does it mean I need to take the whole wire off. I just want to adjust it to go into park. |
