Why do my gauges sweep to max and back when I start my truck?

We've seen many cases of this. Usually it indicates that your truck's battery or alternator are failing or are about to fail. So check the battery and alternator and repair/replace as necessary.

I believe that is a test cycle. When you turn on the key it sweeps the full cycle to test where the begingin and end of the sweep is. I dont know where they get the idea that it is due to a bad battery or alternator. My truck does it everytime and I have a brandnew optima battery and a 140 amp alt that is functioning perfectly. But i could be wrong. It has happened before.
